Stopping Tears for You|Still Loving You, Yet Unable to Speak to Hold On

"Stopping Tears for You" writes about a farewell long known to be inevitable, yet truly hard to let go of. The other party has packed their bags and decided to leave. The protagonist neither questions nor cries to hold them back but accompanies them through the last few words, smiling as she reminds him to be careful on the way. She is not unhurt but refuses to let her tears become the reason he stays out of pity. The entire song unfolds from the details of their final meeting—the keys placed back on the table, the jacket left behind, a hug shorter than usual, and the sound of the car leaving downstairs. Only after the door closes does she finally admit that every "it's okay" spoken that day was not what she truly felt inside. "Stopping Tears for You" does not celebrate letting go nor feign nonchalance. It simply narrates a person who still loves yet knows that no matter how much she cries, it will only delay the other's departure. So she saves her tears for last and says "I actually don’t want to break up" to the now empty room.
